Sub Genres
We have looked into the genre of thriller, into which there are sub-genres. We have identified some key sub-genres which are mainly used and well known in the film industry.
These include the action thriller- this usually involves a race against the clock. These types of films do go without some form of violence, explosions and weapons. These films sometimes contain elements of mystery and crime films however these elements are overpowered by the action, an example of a action-thriller is Mission impossible 2. In addition to that, there is also disaster thriller, these are based on a real or fake natural disaster which creates the main conflict, the disasters such as earthquakes, volcano eruptions, hurricanes and floods, an example of this is Titanic. Also, psychological thriller, these types of film are based on emotional and mental rather than physical until a subsequent violent resolution, this was the category in which Hitchcock was specialist in, with films such as Shadow of a Doubt.
Different sub-genres tend to appeal to different audiences due to the audiences taste.
